A Note From Your Publisher: Info on Rockford Area Event Cancellations

Coronavirus means the situation is changing quickly

March 15, 2020

This is an uncertain time, and things seem to be changing by the day -- if not the hour -- with coronavirus and the reaction to it as health officials and the government try to slow its spread.

Rockford Area events are being canceled and I have marked them as such on the events calendar as I hear about them. But I always recommend verifying event details with the venue before you attend, and it is especially important to do so right now as events may be canceled with little to no notice.

Macaroni Kid Rockford will update our calendar as we hear of cancellations. For instance, Home Depot and Lowe's have canceled their kids' workshops nationwide for the time being. As well as the Burpee Museum, Discovery Center and events at the pubic libraries in the area have been canceled.  However, I have been collecting information on ideas to connect  you through the internet for events.  I will be sharing those to the calendar this weekend.  Places like Metropolitan Opera will be sharing videos of their performance!  I will also be adding a suggested daily activity plan for those parents looking for unique ideas for activities that are safe but entertaining!

If you hear of any event cancellations not reflected on the Macaroni Kid Rockford events calendar, please reach out to me at StacyM@macaronikid.com or on our Facebook page and I will update the calendar.

Please watch the CDC, the Illinois Department of Health, and the Winnebago County Health Department for the latest news.

And, of course, please take care of yourselves and your family. (But leave some toilet paper for the rest of us.)
